Increased amounts of uranium were found in the water in several settlements in Plovdiv region, writes plovdivnow.bg.
In Parvomay, Gradina, Krushevo and Bolyarino, an increased content of natural uranium in the drinking water has been registered, according to the latest laboratory analyses carried out by the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority – Plovdiv and the Institute of Health and Medicine – Plovdiv.
The samples taken between November 18 and 27 found values above the maximum permissible 30 micrograms per liter, set out in Regulation No. 9 on water quality. In Parvomay, the reported results reached 42 micrograms, in Gradina over 41 micrograms, in Krushevo over 42 micrograms, and in Bolyarino – slightly above the upper limit.
The water supply zone covering Parvomay, Gradina and Krushevo is fully affected.
Health authorities are warning residents not to use the water for drinking or cooking, specifying that it can only be used for hygienic purposes.
