A growth in the prices of basic food products, some fruits and vegetables during the week is shown by the data in the weekly bulletin of the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Markets (DCCM).
The Market Price Index (MPI), which reflects the movement of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, increased by 1.11 percent to 2.364 points compared to 2.338 points a week earlier. The base level of the index (1,000 points) is from 2005.
The price of "Vitosha" type cheese increased by 0.93 percent to 18.32 leva per kilogram, and that of cow's cheese decreased by 0.14 percent to 11.82 leva per kilogram. Yogurt (3 and over 3 percent fat content) increased by 2.19 percent and is sold at 1.40 leva per 400 g bucket, and fresh milk - by 3.54 percent to 2.40 leva per liter. The price of cow butter (125 gram package) is up 0.98 percent and is traded at 3.08 leva per piece.
Frozen chicken is up 3.51 percent to 7.02 leva per kilogram. The price of eggs (size M) is up 1.42 percent to 0.43 leva per piece wholesale.
The price of lentils is up 2.43 percent to 4.30 leva per kilogram. The price of rice is down - by 0.06 percent to 3.33 leva per kilogram, and ripe beans - by 0.41 percent to 4.33 leva per kilogram. Type 500 flour is up 4.28 percent to 1.56 leva per kilogram. Oil is more expensive by 0.80 percent and is sold at 3.29 leva per liter. Sugar is up 4.74 percent to 1.90 leva per kilogram.
Among vegetables, the highest price increase is for cucumbers - by 15.83 percent and they are traded at 4.20 leva per kilogram, and for red and green peppers, which are up 12.44 percent and 12.11 percent to 2.73 leva and 2.50 leva per kilogram. Tomatoes also increased in price - by 7.47 percent to 3.02 leva per kilogram.
The most expensive cabbage decreased in price - by 11.16 percent to 0.78 leva per kilogram, and potatoes decreased in price - by 11.34 percent to 0.86 leva per kilogram. Carrots are down by 2.55 percent to 1.07 leva per kilogram. The price of zucchini fell by 4.36 percent to 2.37 leva per kilogram. Ripe onions are traded 5.29 percent less - 0.86 leva per kilogram.
In terms of fruits, a price decrease this week is reported for lemons - by 7.30 percent to 3.15 leva per kilogram, for bananas - by 3.75 percent to 2.67 leva per kilogram, and for oranges - by 2.53 percent to 2.31 leva per kilogram. The prices of apples are increasing, which are up 6.26 percent to 2.14 leva per kilogram, and grapes, which are traded 2.10 percent more to 3.02 leva per kilogram.
