Rumen Petkov on "Petrohan: The two main unanswered questions - who and why

The case shows institutional weakness

The “Petrohan“ case once again raises the question of institutional responsibility and the role of the state in serious criminal incidents. In the program “The Day Begins with Georgi Lyubenov“ former Interior Minister Rumen Petkov commented on what happened and outlined serious doubts about the actions of the institutions before the tragedy.

According to him, the “Petrohan“ case shows institutional weakness. For him, there are two main questions about this criminal act:

“Who and why committed this crime? The fact that an NGO with a name that suggests a sense of state intervention, 20 days after registration was legitimized by the ministry in a very convincing, not to say dubious, way is disturbing. Somehow, it is escaping from this topic. Colleagues and politicians of the same minister are committed to financial support. There is a political support that is waved like a flag when dividends need to be squeezed out of it in front of the public, and when this tragedy happens, then all these people hide.“

Petkov warned that “the questions really are more than the answers.

"The questions are scary. And they need answers, institutional, well-argued, in the fastest way.“

According to him, the case raises a serious question about the role of institutions, including the Ministry of Interior, the National Agency for National Security and the Child Protection Agency.

Rumen Petkov also commented on yesterday's BSP Congress, at which Atanas Zafirov resigned from the chairmanship and Krum Zarkov was elected.

"Yesterday's BSP Congress showed two things. First, reason and dignity. And I want to congratulate Atanas Zafirov for the way he stepped down. A lot of sloppiness was poured on him, a lot of insulting qualifications, a lot of personal attacks. He retained his dignity. And secondly, yesterday's Congress showed a new atmosphere in the BSP and in the left. For the first time, there is no confrontation with the leader of yesterday, there is no crossing out of the leader of yesterday, but there is a clearly outlined path taking into account what has been achieved in a very difficult period. These are two steps that also show the determination of the newly elected chairman Krum Zarkov. I wish him success.“
