The Council of Ministers is expected to allocate 65 million euros for the elections on April 19. This became clear from the words of the caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov at the first cabinet meeting.

"We are faced with a task that is both simple and difficult. Simple because we all know what we have to do and difficult because we know that it will not be met with applause. Today we must provide funds for the holding of elections. Many people will say, again unnecessary expenses and I understand them. They come from people who work, pay their taxes and expect every euro to be spent wisely. This is the voice of a responsible society, but the truth is that elections are not an expense, they are an investment. In the legitimacy of power, trust between citizens and institutions, the right of every Bulgarian, regardless of where they are, to be heard. These 65 million euros are not for the government and the parties. They are for the process, for the remuneration of the members of the election commissions, the people from whom we will require to count every vote, for the CEC's explanatory campaign and the training of the commissions, because the vote cannot be entrusted to people who are illiterate or who cannot distinguish a valid from an invalid ballot," said Acting Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov at the first cabinet meeting.

According to him, in recent years it has become clear that order and rules on election day are not a given.

„During the last elections, if it were not for the chambers, an entire party would have remained outside the Bulgarian parliament. And last but not least, to open sections abroad, no matter how unpleasant this may be for some. We can save on administration, we can optimize expenses, but we cannot afford to save on democracy. Our job today is only to provide the funds, but to do it with respect for every taxpayer,“ said Gyurov.
