The Sofia Municipality is taking further steps to increase parking spaces in the neighborhoods of Sofia. This became possible after on Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Sofia Municipal Council (SOC) approved proposals under two reports by the Mayor of Sofia Vasil Terziev. They unlock the opportunities for construction of new public parking lots in different parts of the city.
„The implementation of the projects will improve parking opportunities and the urban environment in the neighborhoods. These are important solutions with which we are working to provide parking spaces in the regions of the capital“, said the mayor of the capital.
The single report by Mayor Terziev provides an opportunity to launch a procedure for preparing a public-private partnership for the construction of public parking lots. These are procedures for the construction of nine public parking lots in different neighborhoods of Sofia.
They are planned to be located in seven districts of the city: in the “Ovcha Kupel“ area - three parking lots with a total of about 712 parking spaces; in the “Ilinden“ area - one parking lot with a capacity of about 394 spaces; in the “Serdika“ area - one parking lot with about 290 spaces; in the “Mladost“ area - one parking lot with approximately 245 spaces; in the “Poduyane“ area - one parking lot with about 230 spaces; in the “Nadezhda“ area - one parking lot with approximately 113 spaces; and in the “Krasno Selo“ area - a smaller parking lot with about 70 spaces.
Action is to be initiated under the Concessions Act to open concession procedures for each of the sites. All subsequent stages of the procedures will also be subject to approval and control by the Sofia Municipal Council.
The other proposal of the Sofia Mayor, which was approved by the Sofia Municipal Council, envisages the acquisition of land in the residential area “Lyulin – west extension“, on which the construction of a public multi-storey car park is planned. The future car park will be built on land next to the Ring Road and near the upcoming metro expansion.
Under the proposal, the company will transfer to the municipality parts of land properties with a total area of 10,167 sq m, intended for a public multi-storey car park. The market value of the properties is estimated at 1,824,687.22 euros.
The Sofia Municipality will donate to the company a real part of a municipal property with an area of 271 sq.m. with mixed use, whose market value is 50,236.47 euros. The proposal provides for the company to waive the difference in market value between the two properties, which makes the transfer in favor of the municipality free of charge.
The advancement of these projects is part of the consistent efforts of the Sofia Municipality to provide opportunities, improve the organization of parking and create a more orderly urban environment in the regions.
