The state compensation for expensive fuels will probably be activated in the next few days. “Conditions for activating the mechanism are coming“, said Acting Minister of Energy Traycho Traykov, quoted by BTA. The final decision to start payments, however, remains in the hands of the Ministry of Finance.
The social program, which was adopted by the cabinet earlier this week, provides for a 20 euro monthly subsidy for families with cars that meet certain income criteria. The funds will be transferred directly to people's bank accounts if the retail prices of the most popular fuels remain above 1.60 euro per liter for three consecutive days.
The Minister of Energy pointed out that the increase in prices at gas stations creates a serious danger of further acceleration of inflation in our country. “It is necessary to use all available tools of the government and regulatory authorities“, Traykov is categorical. Currently, a working group under the Council of Ministers is also discussing additional options for supporting business in the face of price pressure.
In order to prevent artificial inflation of retail prices, the state is tightening control over the market. According to the relevant minister, traders must receive a clear signal that they are under constant surveillance. This approach aims to achieve a disciplinary effect on the entire sector and prevent possible speculative practices at the expense of consumers.
