The Council of Ministers approved derogations for supplies under 10 procedures for original parts from the Russian Federation for the Kozloduy NPP. “With this decision, we create conditions for timely provision of the necessary segments and planned implementation of repair processes in the future“, announced the Minister of Energy Traycho Traykov after a cabinet meeting.

The decision of the Council of Ministers allows exceptions to the restrictive measures in Council Regulation (EU) No. 833/2014 of 31 July 2014, taken in connection with Russia's actions destabilizing the situation in Ukraine. The derogation allows the Kozloduy NPP to to award public contracts to selected contractors, as well as to continue the implementation of a public procurement contract in accordance with an annex to today's decision. The plant will be able to import iron and steel products from Russia, as well as receive technical assistance necessary for the implementation of contracts explicitly listed in the annexes.

„You know about the problems with the membrane devices in unit six, which have been going on for months. After the last repair, I was present at the start-up of the unit and its parallel connection to the system. After a gradual increase in the load, it is now operating at full capacity, without any problems. But in order to avoid the recurrence of such events in the future, we have decided to derogate from ten procedures, which will allow for timely requests and deliveries of spare parts for current and planned repairs of the reactors and will prevent future difficulties in the operation of the plant.

On the instructions of Minister Traykov, a commission has been established to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the procedural and technical causes of the problems that arose in the ongoing repairs of Unit VI, which led to significant economic losses from under-produced electricity. The results of the inspection will be made public.
