Yotova: Bulgarians took to the streets and demanded their country back. We insist on legitimate institutions

Casting the ballot is not just about spending an hour on Sunday, the president said

President Iliana Yotova addressed the people on the occasion of the upcoming National Assembly elections on April 19.

„ On Sunday we will vote for the eighth time. On Sunday we will vote again and the elections are very important and decisive. Elections that will determine the path of Bulgaria from now on. Elections that we fill with expectations and hopes. A few months ago, thousands of Bulgarians took to the streets and squares to protest. They demanded their country back. They demanded a country cleansed of corruption. They demanded a country in which justice is served - a country that builds a future and respects its citizens. The protests showed that there is no power that is stronger than the citizens. I know, ladies and gentlemen, how difficult it is to hold elections in the spring of 2026. To the still unresolved problems of the introduction of the euro and the skyrocketing prices, new, human and understandable fears have been added - of the new conflict in the Middle East and its consequences. The war in Ukraine has been going on for four years now. World conflicts have entered our homes. Anxiety about the future is understandable. It is understandable if each of us is tempted to close ourselves off in our own fortress - wavering, not believing that we can change anything. That we can change anything, because once again the threat of bought votes tells us: yes, you vote, but we will make a mess, and a stable government - hardly," said Yotova.

There is another way — and this is the path of my vote, of your vote, the path of each of us. Casting your ballot is not just about spending an hour on Sunday. It means an act of belonging to our nation. It means that you want to be part of the ambition for a prosperous Bulgaria. It means that you care about your vote. It means that you want to be responsible to your country.
This means freedom and responsibility - personal, one's own, to families, to loved ones, to society. This means that we insist on having legitimate institutions, we insist on having a state with authority," the president also said.
