The political crisis has again left unfinished the work that had to be done to receive of the funds under the Recovery and Sustainability Plan. Will their absence open a hole in the budget and is there a risk of losing European funds?
Economist Rumen Galabinov commented on the topic to Euronews Bulgaria.
So far we have received one payment – on December 16, 2022, in the amount of 1 billion and 369 million euros. Out of over 6 billion euros approved that we have to receive. That is, we have received less than 25%.
Last year we got nothing, this year still nothing. And the money under this plan should be received by the end of 2026.
There is a danger that at some point these funds will be diverted to us for something else, not according to this plan – if we cannot absorb them from the Recovery and Resilience Plan. This year we have to fight not for the second tranche, but for the second and third – to catch up with last year's “zero“.
