Bulgaria takes over the presidency of the Salzburg Forum from today, BNR reported.

Among the priorities during the Bulgarian presidency will be countermeasures against the trafficking of illegal migrants and the effective implementation of cross-border police cooperation.

Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov added:

"This is an informal initiative for cooperation in the field of internal affairs between a group of member states of the European Union, which currently includes a total of 9 countries. These are Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. A group of friends of the forum from the Western Balkans and Moldova was also created for the Salzburg Forum. Bulgaria takes over the presidency of the Salzburg Forum from July 1..

We make the fight against migrant smuggling a top priority, which, as we all know, requires a comprehensive response at European, national and regional level. Another priority we plan to work on is the effective implementation of the various tools for cross-border police cooperation and information exchange.
