Yavor Bozhankov: It is clear the intention of the "Peevski" model to be reproduced for the next seven years **** Bulgari

Bulgaria has a big problem and that is that a figure like the chief prosecutor has unlimited power for seven years

The intention of the "Peevski" model is clear. to be reproduced for the next seven years. People's representative from PP-DB Yavor Bozhankov said this on the air of Nova TV on the occasion of the decision of the Constitutional Court, which cancels the main changes related to the judicial reform, adopted at the end of 2023 with the votes of PP-DB, GERB and DPS.

The topic was also opened with the Great National Assembly. Everyone says that if it doesn't work with an ordinary National Assembly, make a Grand National Assembly. It can reform the state administration in our country. We're looking for some magical solution, and it's actually simple and it's right in front of us, right in front of our eyes, but we don't want to admit it. The decision is usually the National Assembly. The elections will most likely be in October. Who sends the judges to the Constitutional Court - NA, and to the regulators - NA. I.e. we always want a magic solution, and it is quite simple and we have the necessary tools, he commented.

Bulgaria has a big problem, and it is that a figure like the chief prosecutor has unlimited power for seven years, and if someone controls this person or holds him with kompromat - he holds the entire state prosecution, he believes.

"It is not an exaggeration to say the entire political system. Whom we choose in elections seems not so important if the power tools of the state are based on this Soviet model of governance. It is unique for Bulgaria, it is unique for Europe, that is why the EC and the Venice Commission supported these changes, the Constitutional Court rejected them", added Bozhankov.

Bozhankov commented that the PP-DB expected the court to reject the changes for the president and the chief prosecutor, at best to leave them in force.

"However, we did not expect the president to leave them in force, and to reject them for the chief prosecutor, because there is no logic in this. Even more, I do not find logic in something that sounds harmless, but is not to be underestimated. We wrote that culture, education, science are national values - the Constitutional Court rejected them. We jokingly say that probably many people will live unconstitutionally if this remains," commented Bozhankov.

Bozhankov does not rule out protests. "With enough public energy, we may have a new situation, a new wave. I believe that Europe will not abandon the topic of justice in Bulgaria", believes the MP from PP-DB.
