Position of the Minister of Finance regarding the statement of Jevdet Chakarov

New political passions flared up

Political passions flared up again in Bulgaria after a statement by the co-chairman of the DPS, Mr. Jevdet Chakarov, who accused the Ministry of Finance of behind-the-scenes deals with NRA and KONPI. Mr. Chakarov stated that he had sent a letter to the Minister of Finance with questions about an alleged organized meeting, which he believes may have political motives.

Minister Lyudmila Petkova denies the accusations

The response of the Ministry of Finance was not long in coming, as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Lyudmila Petkova, categorically denied all the accusations. In an official statement, she said that no such letter had been received by the ministry's office, and called Mr. Chakarov's claims manipulative and false. According to her, these statements damage the prestige not only of the state institutions, but also of the Republic of Bulgaria.

„It is inadmissible for a politician and representative of the people, who took an oath in the National Assembly “to observe the Constitution and the laws of the country and in all his actions to be guided by the interests of the people”, to undermine the foundations of statehood and the rule of law, creating a false image of me and my actions, as well as of the work of two of the most serious and prestigious state institutions in the country," Petkova said.

Political implications and public trust

The accusations by Mr. Chakarov and the response of Minister Petkova caused sharp reactions both in political circles and among society. Questions arose regarding the transparency and independence of state institutions, as well as possible political influences on them.

Minister Petkova emphasized that the unproven statements of Mr. Chakarov create a feeling of non-compliance with the laws and the independence of the institutions, which can shake citizens' trust in them. She also urged Mr. Chakarov not to use Bulgaria's authority to achieve personal political goals, especially in front of the country's European and international partners.
