Prof. Palangurski: Bulgaria and Turkey have succeeded best in removing minefields

Greece has probably left the process of complete demining of the wildlife border

According to local people on the Bulgarian-Greek border can be heard rumbling from mines. After 1989, it became clear that there were 72 mined fields on the Bulgarian borders, created during the Cold War. The subject was commented on by the historian Prof. Milko Palangurski in "Your Day". on NOVA NEWS.

He said that the Greeks built a defensive line in the late 1930s, and Bulgaria started mining later under the Warsaw Pact. The professor explained that our country has seriously mined territory along the Greek and Turkish borders. And for their part, our southern neighbors have also declared that they have placed mines along the border, the historian pointed out.

Palangurski pointed out that during the time of Ivan Kostov, a group was created that managed to demine a large part of the fields in our country. “This is a very complicated, very risky process, with a large number of victims, and it costs a lot of money,”, he also said. The professor believes that demining is complete in Bulgaria, but we can never be sure that it is 100%.

The historian explained that sometimes mines are demined with the help of nature, for example, wild animals, and apparently the Greeks decided to leave it to nature. He added that apparently Bulgaria and Turkey have managed to implement the demining process the best.
