Kiril Petkov's resignation is proof of the saying "the thief cries, catch the thief" and has been for years. I now expect the PP to make a film about the corruption schemes in the Sofia Municipality. Such a resignation means that a ball will still be untangled. In the coming weeks we should expect even more interesting events.

This was said by the representative of „Ima tsav narod“ in the EP Ivaylo Valchev to NOVA NEWS.

On June 25, Kiril Petkov announced that he was resigning as co-chairman of the PP and as a deputy from the party in the 51st National Assembly. The reshuffle came after the scandal with the municipal mayors and councilors, who left the party due to accusations of pressure on the leadership to conclude public procurement contracts with certain companies.

He described the PP's request for a vote of no confidence as "stupid". "They are supposedly supporters of the eurozone, but they are trying to declare themselves as the opposition. If the PP finds a reason for a vote of no confidence, it will not be for the euro - a large part of their members and voters will not understand them," added Valchev.

According to him, the anti-euro protests should have taken place upon entering the currency board, not now. "Lower interest rates and more stability - these will be the consequences of adopting the euro", he is convinced.

On June 24, the progress report on North Macedonia, prepared by rapporteur Thomas Weitz, was voted on by the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET). The proposal to submit a “modern” amendment to "Macedonian identity and language" did not receive a majority. All amendments by Bulgarian MEPs were rejected. The report was voted on with 40 "for", 19 "against" and 10 "abstentions".

"At the end of the report, I submitted a minority opinion, which I have noted, that when we talk about identity and language, they should be understood in their modern form. I also added that when it comes to the Macedonian language, this should not contradict the declaration that we do not recognize it," the MEP noted.

At the beginning of the month, the vote was postponed at the request of Bulgarian MEPs with the main reason being doubts about the integrity of the document and irregularities, including an unauthorized and premature leak of internal parliamentary information to officials in Skopje. As an example, comments by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia - Mickoski, who publicly referred to specific elements of the report, even before they were provided to the members of the European Parliament, were cited.

"We had a hundred proposals for the report, and I don't know if even five were included, and they were crushed. Almost all of them were blocked. I hope that in the plenary hall the MEPs will vote with common sense, and not according to party logic. "If the report remains as it is - mentioning one language and identity, what guarantees that each country will not also want theirs to be praised. Many countries have similar cases with their internal minorities," Valchev commented.
