„The pursuit of the Shumen panther can have two quite opposite views. First, there are tame and very beautiful cats in Shumen in every respect. Second, for a person in the 21st century to chase a leopard around the monument to the "Creators of the Bulgarian State" is in itself something of a classic of Soviet literature,“ Petar Stoyanovich commented in „This Sunday“.
„It's a good thing that a war didn't break out around Bulgaria, because we would have said: „Stop the war immediately until we find the leopard. Then we will continue on the front“. I hope that this drama, which is about to grow into a vaudeville, will end soon“, he said.
According to him, this strange clash with wildlife opens a fundamental question – why in the middle of the 21st century the pranks with wildlife continue with almost impunity.
“That is the question, not whether a frog's leg was planted, on which this leopard could be caught and famous Bulgarian and African hunters could finally shoot it. That is not the important thing“, said Stoyanovich.
“This poor animal will probably either end up in a zoo or be shot. I don't see good days for it“, the historian believes.
