„The increase in the price of food is between 5 and 83%, the inspections of the CPC, CZP and NRA have established. This is speculation. From the point of view of the farm and agricultural products sold in stores, I categorically state that there is nothing that will lead to this increase in food prices.“
This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahov to bTV.
The inspections of the Commission for the Protection of Competition, for the Protection of Consumers, as well as the Revenue Agency, have established an increase in the price of some products of up to 80%. They cover the period from June 3 to June 17.
The conclusions – some products are rising from 5 to 83%. Regulators have already requested explanations from 43 retailers. Information about their activities is awaited from 50 retail chains.
Tahov commented that most likely someone is taking advantage of the moment before the currency conversion reaches some basic price.
„The state and regulatory authorities are monitoring this to prevent it from happening and there is no reason for it. Speculation may not have its own definition, but there is confirmation of its existence through cartel agreements and unjustified price increases,“ he added.
