Christine Lagarde showed the Bulgarian 2 euro coin

Bulgaria will officially adopt the euro and become the 21st member of the eurozone from January 1, 2026

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde welcomed the design of the Bulgarian 2 euro coin in a post on "Facebook". This is her second statement regarding the Bulgarian euro coins within ten days, BTA reported.

"Exciting news for Bulgaria and the eurozone! "Take a first look at the design of the Bulgarian 2-euro coin," Lagarde wrote on social media.

The ECB President notes that while it will be some time before the coins enter circulation, the preview provides a glimpse of the national side of the coin, chosen by the Bulgarian National Bank.

"The design is similar to that of the 2-lev coin and includes symbols that are deeply rooted in the country's heritage and cherished by its people," Lagarde added.

The national side of the Bulgarian 2-euro euro coin will feature St. Paisius of Hilendar - a national revivalist, clergyman and author of "Slavonic-Bulgarian History". The coin will feature a circle of 12 stars, as on the flag of the European Union, the inscription "BULGARIA" in Cyrillic, the inscription "EURO" also in Cyrillic and the year of issuance.

The edge of the coin will have the inscription "GOD PROTECT BULGARIA" written twice - upright on one side and inverted on the other.

The greeting of the ECB President comes after on August 13 this year, in a similar post on "Facebook" Lagarde presented the design of the Bulgarian 1 euro euro coin, which includes the image of St. Ivan Rilski.

Bulgaria will officially adopt the euro and become the 21st member of the eurozone from January 1, 2026.
