"This government is in survival mode. No government in survival mode can do anything special".

This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Prof. Daniel Valchev - Dean of the Faculty of Law of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education.

"The government can maintain certain systems. The state is not as bad as it seems at first glance. But it does not have the strength for proactive politics," he explained on the program "Sunday 150."

According to him, however, the pressure for early elections will probably increase:

"No matter how stable a majority you have, sometimes when there are expectations for change, then even the smallest spark can blow things up."

"Even during the Unification, there were very great political tensions in Bulgaria. And at that time there were all sorts of internal strife, so this is not something unknown," commented Prof. Valchev regarding President Radev's statement about "the bigwigs and political brokers."

According to him, we are already practically in an election campaign.

"Since we are not able to unite even on such important dates, at least we are united, we use every opportunity to confirm our current, usually transitional political position," he pointed out.

According to him, the beginning of the political season has shown that the main task of the government is to avoid new elections. Prof. Valchev believes that the parties in parliament are in survival mode. But:

"On the other hand - for Radev it is very important to have parliamentary elections at the latest together with the presidential elections, if possible before that. This is the drama - Radev is pushing, on the other side they are responding to him".

If it were up to Peevski, there would be no new elections, expressed his opinion Daniel Valchev and explained:

"This government should suit him to some extent. On the one hand, this is a, to put it mildly, friendly government. On the other hand, he has to solve certain issues related to his own organization. I assume that he will try to prevent new elections, but that does not always depend on the ruling party".

He also pointed out that there is not much protest energy.

"Suddenly they remember that democracy is in danger. It is in danger, of course. But it was in danger before. Mr. Peevski outplayed them with great ease. They created the CPC with some absurd functions, probably with the idea of heading it, and then he headed it. Who carved this "bat"?", commented Prof. Valchev regarding the PP-DB government, the constitutional and other changes made at the time, and their protests now.

Yet everything is fixable, he believes.

For him, the problem is that none of the political forces sets tasks and goals that go beyond the horizon of the next elections. "The fact that we pretend not to see the problems does not mean that they will disappear by themselves", pointed out Daniel Valchev and emphasized that the systemic problems in Bulgaria, to which we turn a blind eye, are enormous.
