Eight hundred slaughtered lambs, sent for destruction due to lack of health identification and accompanying documents, disappeared from a meat processing plant in Svishtov. This happened just two days after inspectors of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) partially stopped the company's activities due to violations, Nova TV reports.

According to the owner, the lamb carcasses were loaded at night and sent to a rendering plant in Greece. However, the inspection shows otherwise - during this period the specified vehicle was not in the Svishtov region, but in another part of the country.

The law requires that meat be sent to a rendering plant according to a strictly defined procedure - with a commission and with mandatory treatment, which excludes the possibility of subsequent use. At present, there is no evidence that these actions have been implemented.

During the inspection, it was also established that according to documents, some of the lambs were cut up in the enterprise.

It is not excluded that quantities from these batches have reached the retail network. The search for the missing quantities and the clarification of their movement continues in coordination with the competent authorities. BFSA will inform about the results of the investigation.

The agency emphasizes that any product with an undetermined origin or without the necessary documentation is suspended from sale. Control in the retail network has been strengthened, including on holidays, in order to protect consumers and guarantee food safety.
