Bad weather has covered Romania, with snow continuing to fall in the mountains, and a red and orange code has been declared in the southern and eastern parts of the country for rain and wind, whose gusts can reach 90 kilometers per hour, reports Digi 24 TV, quoted by BTA.

A half-meter snow cover has accumulated in the mountains at an altitude of over 1,500 meters, and the Transalpina - one of the highest roads in Romania, remains closed. According to the National Meteorological Service, the weather will remain cold through the weekend, with warming expected only by the middle of next week.

A red code for rain and wind has been declared in the southern counties of Dolj and Olt, and an orange code is in effect for the southeastern part of the country, where significant amounts of precipitation and increased wind are expected. For mountainous areas, meteorologists predict periodic snowfalls with significant accumulation of snow cover, as well as snowstorms.

Yesterday, the National Institute of Hydrology announced a red code for the risk of flooding for rivers in five counties: Mehedinci, Dolj, Valcea, Olt and Teleorman.

"These are two days of extreme weather phenomena that are already manifesting themselves: large amounts of precipitation and increased wind, including in the capital," meteorologist Elena Mateescu explained to Digi 24. She indicated that warming is expected towards the middle of next week, when temperatures are expected to rise to 20-21 degrees.
