On the eve of International Children's Day, an Italian German teacher - 65-year-old Stefano Adeo - made a shocking threat to the 8-year-old daughter of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In a post on the social network "Ex" (formerly Twitter), he wished the child to share the fate of 14-year-old Martina Carbonaro - brutally murdered by her ex-boyfriend, BTA reports.
The case has sparked outrage throughout Italy. Adeo, a high school teacher in Ciciano (Naples province), has been posting offensive and threatening comments on the Internet about politicians, including Meloni and other ministers, for years. The reason for his latest post was Meloni's meetings with Donald Trump and Italy's position on the conflict in Gaza.
On "Facebook", Prime Minister Meloni described the incident as a manifestation of "ideological hatred" that "crosses all boundaries". She called for political unity against the language of violence.
In an interview with the "Roma" newspaper, Adeo apologized, calling his post a "stupid and impulsive gesture", born of emotions related to international events. He stated that he had never promoted political ideas at school and insisted that he "hates violence". The teacher also reported that he had begun to receive threats and that tomatoes had been thrown at his windows.
The police have been notified of the case, and the Ministry of Education will examine the case and possibly impose disciplinary measures. President Sergio Mattarella personally called Giorgia Meloni to express his solidarity.
The scandal erupted amid a national debate about the role of schools in educating children in respect, tolerance and rejection of violence.
