If we know what the US intentions are for Greenland, we can negotiate, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said today at a press conference in Aarhus, related to the start of his country's presidency of the Council of the EU, BTA reports.

We do not expect military intervention by the US for Greenland, he pointed out. The issue remains open. We must take US President Donald Trump seriously, but not literally. We take him very seriously. We are pleased with the strong European solidarity on the Greenland issue, Rasmussen said.

We must act carefully. I have the feeling that politicians in the US have a nuanced attitude on this issue. We rule out military intervention by the US. We must solve the issue on the basis of cooperation, he insisted.

Unity and determination in the EU have never been more important, the minister commented. The change in recent years is that we have a common assessment of the necessary European actions. I believe that today's situation can encourage improved security in the areas of defense and economy. We invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the opening of the Danish Presidency as a clear sign that security is a top priority for Denmark, Rasmussen pointed out.
