Spokesman Dmitry Peskov calls new 18th EU sanctions package one-sided and with dubious effect

Russia has built immunity to Western sanctions and has successfully adapted to them, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday, after the European Union approved its 18th package of sanctions against Moscow, mainly targeting the Russian oil industry, reports "Reuters", reports News.bg.

The new package aims to reduce the price ceiling set by the G-7 for the purchase of Russian crude oil to $47.6 per barrel, diplomats told "Reuters".

Peskov's comments on the sanctions were sharp. He called them one-sided and illegal, describing them as part of a “consistent anti-Russian stance" of Europe.

“At the same time, we have already acquired some immunity to sanctions and have adapted to life under them,“ the spokesman told reporters.

He added that the new package would be analyzed to minimize its consequences, but warned that sanctions also have negative effects on the countries that impose them. “This is a double-edged sword,” Peskov stressed.

Russian government and trade sources have also downplayed the significance of the new restrictions and expressed doubts that they would have a significant impact on Russian oil trade.
