Last year, about 673 million people worldwide experienced hunger, which is about 22 million fewer people than the previous year, according to UN data, DPA reported, BTA reported.

This means a slight improvement in the overall situation, according to the report on the state of food security and nutrition in the world, published by five UN agencies in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

In 2024, more than 35 million people worldwide were affected by a food emergency, while 2 million faced catastrophic food shortages. The most affected areas in this regard are the Gaza Strip, South Sudan, Sudan, Haiti and Yemen.

Despite improvements in some regions, especially in South and Southeast Asia and South America, the global goal of eradicating hunger remains. Last year, 8.2% of the world's population did not have enough food to meet their basic nutritional needs.

In areas such as Africa and West Asia, hunger has even increased. Projections presented in the report show that the number of undernourished people in the world could decline by 2030 to about 512 million people, of whom 60 percent will be in Africa.

According to the report, about 2.3 billion people around the world lived in conditions of moderate to severe food insecurity in the past year. This means that they did not have enough food or did not have enough quality food. Rising food prices are also making it more difficult for many people to afford certain foods, especially high-quality and healthy ones. Last year, about a third of the world's population could not afford a healthy diet, according to the report.
