A Ukrainian sniper killed two Russian soldiers with a single bullet from a distance of 4,000 meters, which is considered a record for the longest lethal shot, The Telegraph reported.
The sniper from the elite Ukrainian unit “Privit“ (“Prizrak“) used a Snipex Alligator rifle, caliber 14.5 mm. The weapon is Ukrainian-made.
According to local media, the killing of the occupiers was carried out near Pokrovsk, one of the most active sections of the front. Ukrainian snipers are considered to be among the best in the world and already have a lot of real-world experience from military operations.
The record-breaking lethal shot was made with the help of drones and artificial intelligence on August 14. Russian forces are intensifying their offensive around Pokrovsk, and analysts say it is there that some of the fiercest fighting has been taking place since the start of the full-scale war.
The Alligator sniper rifle is designed to hit enemy military equipment (such as vehicles and communication systems), not to kill soldiers. Its official range is 2,000 meters, which is half the distance of the unique shot. Since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Ukraine has become a testing ground for military innovation.
Elite snipers are now operating with the help of drones and artificial intelligence software, expanding the capabilities of the technology beyond its intended limits as Ukraine struggles with a shortage of ammunition and equipment.
The record was previously held by Ukrainian sniper Vyacheslav Kovalsky, who killed a Russian soldier from 3,800 meters in 2023. He also killed an "Islamic State" fighter in Iraq from 3,540 meters in 2017.
