In the automotive world, the duel between Mercedes-Benz and BMW is eternal, but this time the Bavarian giant is ready to deal a pretty heavy blow. While Stuttgart is preparing a modest update to the GLE, BMW is playing it safe with the all-new, fifth generation of its flagship X5. The model with the internal index G65 is expected to appear on the market in 2027 and become an unshakable argument in the battle for customers. Rumors whisper of a design inspired by the bold Neue Klasse concept, as well as a record choice of engines - from traditional gasoline and diesel, through hybrids, to all-electric and hydrogen versions.
The X5 is more than just an SUV for BMW - it is the door that opened the brand to the world of crossovers. Over the years, its design has remained true to its elegant restraint, avoiding the controversial experiments characteristic of other Bavarian models. Today, while camouflaged prototypes are cruising the test tracks, digital artists are taking on the challenge of unraveling the future vision of the icon.
One such unofficial look at the BMW X5 G65 was presented by the YouTube channel AutoYa. Using spy photos and elements from the Neue Klasse, the designer creates a CGI visualization that gives us a glimpse of a possible future. The fact that the current generation G05 debuted in 2018 and received a facelift in 2023 makes the appearance of an all-new model a logical and timely step.
The virtual BMW X5 has a completely redesigned front end, where slim LED headlights merge with daytime running lights, creating a futuristic and technological vision. Between them is a sleek black panel that hides compact, vertical radiator grilles - noticeably more discreet than the current “giant nostrils“. The front bumper is decorated with complex geometric motifs that emphasize the crossover's modern look. The side profile retains the familiar proportions of the X5, but without the classic door handles. Instead, hidden elements have been integrated that signal the transition to a new design era.
Although renderings of the rear are still missing, the author has paid special attention to the interior. Inspired by the new BMW iX3, he hints at a strong focus on digitalization and electrification. The virtual artist has also shown a wide palette of body colors, as well as several interior trim options, emphasizing the premium character of the upcoming model. Of course, this project has no official status, but it gives a valuable idea of the direction in which BMW may move with the new X5. See also the video.
