While Toyota is keeping details of the next RAV4 under wraps, some ideas can be gleaned from the recent redesign of one of the brand's global bestsellers, the Camry, which is based on the same TNGA-K platform.
The virtual car design studio Avarvarii Automotive Artworks has released its own version of the design of the next Toyota RAV4, based on the appearance of the new generation Camry, which could be presented in 2025 or 2026.
The current generation of the Toyota RAV4, despite its long history on the market, remains the best-selling SUV. That is why the Japanese are in no hurry to replace it. However, competitors are not sleeping, so sooner or later the Japanese will have to update their bestseller.
The new generation of Camry abandoned the basic clean internal combustion engine and now only offers hybrid powertrains. This approach is likely to extend until 2026 to the rest of the brand's models and will affect the new RAV4.
Toyota is expected to ditch the base gasoline engine in favor of hybrids, adding new ones and keeping the existing Hybrid (FWD) and Prime plug-in hybrid (AWD) versions. While no major mechanical changes are expected, the battery could undergo improvements, potentially increasing electric range and charging speed.
An interior update is also expected, bringing the new model closer to the latest Camry upgrades. The 2026 RAV4 could feature more refined materials, bolder colors, a larger infotainment screen and a customized digital instrument cluster.
However, the exterior is likely to see the biggest change to a "blockier", retro-futuristic design, in line with Toyota's latest SUV concepts. The overall dimensions of the car must remain unchanged to maintain sufficient space for passengers and cargo.
No prototypes have been shown publicly so far, so the final design remains a mystery. These predictions are educated guesses about how Toyota could develop its most popular car while staying true to the current RAV4's winning formula.
