Late last night a team at mobile.bg came across an unusual a sight for our streets, namely a BMW test prototype. Even more unusual was its location, which was on one of the central streets of the capital's Student City.
The mystery model is partially covered in camouflage that mainly hides the front and rear of the car, suggesting that it's probably a facelift. Judging by the shapes and size, we can assume that it is the LCI version of the BMW X5, which was actually presented more than a year ago.
What's more interesting about this BMW actually hides on its roof, where we find a system of cameras and LiDAR. This suggests that the company is probably just using a prototype of the already unveiled X5 LCI to drive around different cities and refine its autonomous and semi-autonomous driving technologies. If that's the case, then Student City and the different driving styles in it certainly provide a good test location for this type of technology.
BMW has not released official information about what exactly the car of the brand does in our country, but it is not excluded that it simply collects various data that can be used for the company's navigation systems at a later stage.
