BMW has been developing an all-electric hypercar for several years. The model was already close to being put into production, but now the project has been stopped. This is reported by BMW Blog, citing internal sources from the company.
According to them, BMW has created a team to develop an electric hypercar that can produce up to 1,300 horsepower. The development has progressed to a prototype, the design of which is described as "sporty, bold and futuristic".
The hypercar was already preparing to enter production, but the BMW board of directors decided to stop the project due to potential profitability problems. The company is not sure that the market is ready for such a vehicle.
And the reason for this uncertainty lies in the slowdown in the growth of electric vehicle sales, which is observed throughout most of 2024.
Information about the cancellation of the hypercar appeared a few days after it became known that the Bavarians had abandoned their plans to produce a mid-engine hybrid sports car I16, giving priority to the XM crossover.
Currently, BMW is working on a fully electric successor to the M3, which is built on the Neue Klasse platform. The new product will be equipped with four electric motors: it is expected that the power plant will be able to produce more than 1,000 hp.
