The automotive industry is eagerly awaiting the results of the “World Car of the Year“ competition, with the finalists already confirmed ahead of their announcement in April. The competition, which began in late 2024, went through several stages to determine the leading cars in the various categories.
The BMW X3, Hyundai Inster/Casper Electric and Kia EV3 will compete in the prestigious “World Car of the Year“ category. Notably, the same manufacturers dominated last year's final, with Kia ultimately taking the top prize with the EV9. To qualify for the main award, cars must be available on at least two continents, in two major markets, and produced in volumes exceeding 10,000 units per year, while remaining outside the luxury price range.
In addition to the main award, several additional categories will recognize achievements in specific segments. Finalists in the “World City Car” category include BYD Seagull/Dolphin Mini, Hyundai Inster/Casper Electric and MINI Cooper Electric. The “World Electric Car” category includes Hyundai Inster/Casper Electric, Kia EV3 and Porsche Macan Electric.
In the “World Luxury Car” segment, the Porsche Macan, Porsche Panamera and Volvo EX90 will compete for the top honors. The “World Sports Car” award will be contested by the BMW M5, Porsche 911 Carrera GTS and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. Finally, the “World Car Design of the Year“ category will feature the Kia EV3, Toyota Land Cruiser/LC 250/LC Prado and Volkswagen ID. Buzz.
A jury of approximately 100 automotive journalists from 30 countries will determine the winners, with the official announcement scheduled for April 16 at the New York International Auto Show.
