The Airbus A320 aircraft family has become the most produced aircraft in the history of civil aviation, overtaking its main competitor Boeing 737 in total production, reports Reuters, citing a report by the British consulting company Cirium.
The record was set after the last aircraft produced was delivered to the Saudi airline Flynas. Since the beginning of operation in 1988, 12,260 aircraft of the A320 family have been delivered. Airbus has not yet commented on this achievement.
The Airbus A320 is a family of narrow-body aircraft for medium-haul flights. Introduced in 1988, the A320 made a technological breakthrough, becoming the world's first mass-produced passenger aircraft with a fly-by-wire control system, allowing pilot commands to be transmitted via computer.
