Amazon to cut largest number of jobs since pandemic - 1

Global online retailer Amazon is preparing for large-scale layoffs of up to 30,000 corporate jobs. The decision will affect approximately 10% of the corporate workforce and will be the largest wave of layoffs since the end of 2022, reports Reuters. This is due to cost optimization and adjustments in the number of personnel after a period of active hiring during the pandemic.

According to Reuters, notices of layoffs will begin to be sent to employees by email within the next 24 hours. The cuts will affect several divisions, including human resources (HR), operations, devices and services, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has been implementing a comprehensive program to cut costs and simplify the corporate structure for the past 2 years, citing excessive bureaucracy and excessive layers of management. The company launched an anonymous feedback loop that allowed it to identify over 1,500 requests and implement over 450 changes to business processes.

In June, Jassy announced that the increased use of artificial intelligence (AI) in corporate systems would lead to further reductions in the number of employees, especially in areas where repetitive and routine tasks can be automated.

It was previously reported that Amazon is actively exploring the potential for automation through AI technologies and changes to the workforce.

According to the Layoffs.fyi platform, more than 200 IT companies have laid off approximately 98,000 people since the beginning of 2025. Among the major players implementing such measures are Microsoft, which has laid off 15,000 employees this year; Meta, which has cut about 600 jobs in its artificial intelligence division; and Google, which eliminated more than 100 positions in its cloud division in October. Salesforce also cut 4,000 support staff, and Intel cut 22,000, the largest layoff in the industry.
