The market price index is up nearly 1 percent this week, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets (DKSBT) reports, BTA reported.

The market price index (MPI), which reflects the movement of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, is rising this week by 0.96 percent to 2.321 points. Last week, the MPI was at a level of 2.299 points. The base level of the ITC - 1,000 points, dates back to 2005.

Among the vegetables monitored by the DCSBT, the most sharply increasing prices this week were zucchini - by 17.11 percent to 1.78 leva per kilogram, and cucumbers - by 14.91 percent to 3.16 leva per kilogram. Tomatoes are also more expensive, trading at 2.91 leva per kilogram, or 3.19 percent up. Red peppers saw a price increase of 1.27 percent to 2.23 leva per kilogram, while green peppers saw a decrease of 2.78 percent to 1.89 leva per kilogram. The most significant drop in price was observed for ripe onions, which are down 7.97 percent and are sold at 0.97 leva per kilogram. Potatoes are also cheaper - by 6.19 percent to 0.97 leva per kilogram, cabbage - by 5.95 percent to 0.98 leva per kilogram, and carrots - by 4.17 percent to 1.15 leva per kilogram.

Among fruits, only bananas are more expensive, which are traded at 2.82 leva per kilogram, or 1.15 percent up. Apples are the most expensive, which are down 6.35 percent to 2.30 leva per kilogram. The prices of watermelons are also lower - by 3.28 percent to 0.53 leva per kilogram, lemons - by 3.08 percent to 3.71 leva per kilogram, and grapes - by 2.27 percent to 3.10 leva per kilogram.

The price of cow's cheese falls by 0.67 percent to 12.10 leva per kilogram, and that of Vitosha type cheese - by 0.03 percent to 18.03 leva per kilogram. Yogurt (3 and over 3 percent fat content) is down 1 percent and is sold at 1.38 leva for a 400-gram bucket, and fresh milk - by 0.26 percent to 2.31 leva per liter. The price of cow butter (125 gram package) is also lower and is traded at 3.13 leva per piece, which is a 1.07 percent decrease.

Frozen chicken is up 2.82 percent to 7.14 leva per kilogram, and eggs (size M) - up 0.53 percent to 0.38 leva per piece wholesale.

The price of rice is down 1.9 percent to 3.30 leva per kilogram, and that of type 500 flour - down 1.08 percent to 1.46 leva per kilogram. Oil is also cheaper this week, selling for 3.20 leva per liter, down 4.88 percent. Sugar is up 2.02 percent to 1.82 leva per kilogram. The price of ripe beans is down 1.99 percent to 4.14 leva per kilogram, while that of lentils is up 1.88 percent to 4.12 leva per kilogram.
