Chinese shipbuilders have launched the world's first methanol-powered superlarge oil tanker, Kaito. The 333-meter vessel can carry approximately 2.1 million barrels of crude oil, China Central Television reported.
It is powered by a dual-fuel engine with a methanol injection system, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 92% and sulfur oxides by 99% compared to using conventional fuel.
The tanker is equipped with a smart platform that optimizes liquid cargo management, engine room operation and maintenance, significantly improving the ship's fuel economy, efficiency and safety.
