It is calm in Egypt and the museums are full of European tourists - 1

It is calm in the Egyptian capital Cairo, flights are operating normally, and the museums are starting to fill up with European tourists.

This was reported by TravelNews correspondent from Egypt Ani Valentinova, who is on site to check the situation. Egypt does not interfere in the conflict in the Middle East, has no American bases on its territory and has been responsibly protecting foreign tourists for years, because tourism is a national priority.

The national carrier “Bulgaria Air“ also started charter flights to Cairo, Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh, which are on the program of the tour operator “Abaks“. The flights will continue until mid-May.

“The first groups of Bulgarian tourists arrived on Saturday, March 14, 2026, and we are already in Cairo. It is calm here, but the traffic is indescribable. From early morning, crowds of impatient tourists flock to the city's sights in the hope of meeting with wonders and mysticism“, said Ani Valentinova.

After landing at the airport, as per the tour operator's program, we headed straight to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is full of European tourists, the TravelNews correspondent emphasized. "We see groups from Germany, England, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Russia and other countries", added Ani Valentinova.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is the world's largest repository of ancient Egyptian art objects. Its collection includes about 120 thousand exhibits from all historical periods of ancient Egypt. You can see an obelisk, statues of Ramses the Great, mummies, sarcophagi, preserved pottery and jewelry.

However, the biggest attraction and interest of visitors is certainly the golden mask of Tutankhamun. The 11-kilogram funeral mask of Tutankhamun is made of gold foil and is inlaid with precious stones, blue lapis lazuli and stained glass. The forehead is decorated with a vulture and a sacred cobra, symbolizing upper and lower Egypt. A false beard hangs from below, symbolizing Osiris, the god of the underworld. Made of quartz and obsidian. On the back of the mask are engraved magical inscriptions taken from the “Book of the Dead“. This is one of the most exquisite artistic treasures in the world. It is exhibited in special enclosures and has live guards around it. One photo of the mask takes about 15 minutes of waiting in line.

Cairo is the largest city in Africa and the 15th in the world. Located on both banks of the Nile River, it has been inhabited for more than 6,000 years, having been the capital of many Egyptian kingdoms. It is associated with the historical heritage of ancient Egypt, with the pyramids of Giza and the ancient city of Memphis located nearby. Currently, Cairo's population is about 25 million people, and no one knows exactly how many. As many as the entire population of Bulgaria - 6 million, are the residents of Giza alone.
