Exports of US oil and gas to China could become part of a new trade deal and play a stabilizing role in relations between the two countries, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said in an interview with Fox News.
In response to a question about President Donald Trump's statement that China would be able to buy oil from Iran, but at the same time expressed hope for increased purchases from the US, Wright said: “Yes, I think it's entirely possible. It's very possible.“
He said that even during the George W. Bush administration, the US was the world's largest importer of oil and gas. “Today, the largest importer is China, and the United States is in the opposite position“, the minister noted.
According to Wright, energy trade between the United States and China has enormous potential and could become an important element of stabilization. “This could really help to conclude a trade agreement between the United States and China - if Beijing starts buying more American energy resources“, he emphasized.
