The Institute for Road Safety (IPB) sent an open letter to the Minister of Transport Grozdan Karadzhov in connection with another signal of corrupt practices in the Executive Agency “Automobile Administration“ (IAAA). It concerns the blackmail of the drivers of the British singer Robbie Williams, who last night gave a concert at the “Vasil Levski“ stadium in the capital. Here is what the IPB wrote:
Dear Mr. Minister,
The Institute for Road Safety has repeatedly signaled corrupt practices in the Executive Agency “Automobile Administration“ (IAAA). Despite our numerous statements, there has still been no reaction from the Ministry of Transport.
The latest case from a few days ago is particularly worrying - IAAA officers stopped two trucks with English registration, transporting equipment for the Robbie Williams concert, and tried to extort a bribe from the drivers. After a signal to the Ministry of Interior and the British Embassy, the same officers were detained.
Despite the seriousness of the case and the risk of an international scandal, the ministry is silent.
Mr. Karadjov, you are usually active in the public space - why are you silent now?
The silence, darkness and lack of transparency in road safety management are among the reasons why the government's efforts do not yield real results. We expect a clear position and concrete actions from you.
Sincerely,
Road Safety Institute
