The contract with the Turkish energy company "Botash" costs our country 6 billion and puts "Bulgargaz" at risk of insolvency. This was announced by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov at the National Energy Conference "Compass 2025". According to him, the case raises the question of how long-term decisions can be made by governments with a very short mandate. Vice President Iliyana Yotova also participated in the forum, who returned the ball by criticizing the work of the rulers regarding the energy strategy.

„The conversation in society about the contract with "Botash" is important because it has become very loaded with politics and the inability to make specific complex decisions on its amendment and termination. I leave aside the practical context, but it is a problem because it has obligated “Bulgargaz” with over 600 million leva, which it cannot repay. This is a problem that is heading towards insolvency”, said Prime Minister Zhelyazkov.

”In our country, often instead of talking about the advantages and respecting the rules in public-private partnership, we are suspected of lobbying or, even worse, of corrupt practices. While we are wandering between possible solutions, partners and neighbors have long been ahead of us and are far more flexible. I would not like Bulgaria's energy security to be like Bulgaria's water security”, emphasized Vice President Iliana Yotova.
