Christian Vigenin: "Renew Europe" hysterically exaggerates the problems the country has been facing for a long time - 1

The "Renew Europe" group, misled by its members from Bulgaria, hysterically exaggerates the problems the country has been facing for a long time. This was stated in the European Parliament in Strasbourg by Christian Vigenin, an MEP from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats/BSP, BTA reported.

The discussion in Strasbourg on the topic of "The continuing encroachment on democratic institutions and the rule of law in Bulgaria" took place at the request of the "Renew Europe" group, and the occasion for it was the detention of the mayor of Varna, Blagomir Kotsev.

"And what do you offer us today - a propaganda debate in EP, suspension of funds for Bulgaria, European political interference in the work of the Bulgarian court", Vigenin addressed the initiators of the debate.

According to him, the solution is not in political campaigns against Bulgaria and in debates in Strasbourg, but in systematic constructive work between the ruling and opposition parties in Sofia.

On behalf of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats group, he stated that democracy, fundamental rights and the rule of law are the foundation of the European Union and any attack on them in any member state is an attack on the entire Union.

"But also, the political abuse of these issues undermines the trust of citizens and achieves the opposite effect", the MEP added.

We will support the conduct of a well-prepared mission of a monitoring group that "Renew Europe" said they would send to Bulgaria. We will rely on it to make the most accurate assessment of the situation and give recommendations, said Vigenin.
