The sanctions imposed by the US against Russian oil giants do not have a direct effect on Bulgaria, but will have indirect consequences. This was stated on the air of "Your Day" on NOVA NEWS by the executive director of the Bulgarian Oil and Gas Association Andrey Delchev.
"American laws undoubtedly do not have direct effect in our country. They have direct effects in relation to the entire territory of America and in relation to all American legal entities. And accordingly their branches downstream. That is, any person registered in America or who has a branch in Bulgaria," explained Delchev.
"The BNB published a statement. And it is that the banks are not directly affected, but each one assesses for itself whether to continue working with the relevant persons. They are not only "Rosneft" and "Lukoil", but also their subsidiaries, of course. That is, it is very likely that some of the banks, especially international ones, will refuse to work with the oil giants. And then there will be a problem with payments. It is very likely that some countries will reconsider their attitude towards the import of Russian oil," the association's executive director also explained.
According to him, "Lukoil" will probably have difficulties in ensuring its payments.
"BPGA met in extraordinary session yesterday because we were all surprised by the US decision. No one expected it. We met urgently to see what is happening with commercial stocks, what is happening with the state of the companies, so as to ensure continuity of supplies. "We have established that in the short term we have no problems, there should be no market collapses," he added.
And he added that our government should diplomatically extend the deadline for the measures to come into effect.
