After more than an hour of debate, the MPs did not accept the PP-DB's legal amendments to the Social Security Code (SSC), concerning the payment of full compensation for the second year of maternity leave. The MPs voted with 84 votes "For", 14 votes "against" and 97 votes abstained.
PP-DB MP Venko Sabrutev, who is among the submitters of the texts, insisted on a revote and turned to the MPs from the BSP-United Left, news.bg reported.
"You have the opportunity to show that you are a left-wing party or a controlled party. If you are a left-wing party, now is the time to show it. This is not an expense for the budget, but at the expense of this, it is an added value for young families and mothers with children," the MP argued.
Despite his call, the MPs again did not adopt the changes to the Social Security Code.
The bill allows mothers, when they return to work voluntarily, to receive full maternity benefits. The current bill has been long-awaited by young families and businesses and provides additional support for mothers, for the family budget and for raising children more fairly.
At the beginning of the debates, Venko Sabrutev presented the motives of the bill, since, according to him, a report from the Social Policy Committee is missing. "GERB does not care about the young families, mothers and children of Bulgaria", the MP pointed out.
Subsequently, a dispute broke out between the parliamentary groups of PP-DB, "Vazrazhdane" and "Ima takvi narod".
First, the MP from "Vazrazhdane" Georgi Ivanov stated that the topic of motherhood is being used by the MPs to accumulate political dividends and political chewing gum. He wants young families to feel the support of the state, as well as to be stimulated to have children.
For his part, Venko Sabrutev asked whether it was populist to take care of the young families of the state. "This is called care, and your party does not understand what it means. You only know what money is, but when will state money return to society? ", asked the MP from PP-DB, addressing this time the parliamentary group of "There is such a people". He believes that the money is not returned to mothers and young families, arguing that it remains in Delyan Peevski's piggy bank.
Tsvetan Predov from "There is such a people" Sabrutev asked why PP-DB did not raise maternity leave in the 47th and 49th National Assembly.
Venko Sabrutev also got into a fight with BSP-United Left, attacking them for not supporting full maternity leave.
BSP MP Vladimir Georgiev, on the other hand, described the PP-DB MP's behavior as hypocritical and disrespectful towards his colleagues.
