Zhelyazkov: On January 1, Bulgaria will take a very decisive step towards completing its European integration - 1

On January 1, Bulgaria will take a very decisive step towards completing its European integration along this inexorable, but extremely difficult, path since November 10, 1989. This was said by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov at the conference on the topic “Dialogue on Defense and Democracy: “Fortress of Freedom“ in Sofia. The organizer is the Center for the Study of Democracy.

„The Bulgarian government is committed to strengthening freedom as we understand it, and one that we have been trying hard to build for the past 36 years“, added the Prime Minister.

„As a centrist Euro-Atlantic coalition, we prioritize European integration and the protection of Ukraine's democratic future as part of a united Europe. It is not the government's task to defend its own stability, but to defend the stability of democratic trends that must be defended. The adoption of the budget is one of those Rubicons that we must pass through. And I am confident that the Bulgarian government will be able to convince the National Assembly to adopt the first budget in euros“, Zhelyazkov also commented.

According to the Prime Minister, Bulgaria is also ready for membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development with the aim of greater and more stable integration. “Security in Europe cannot rest solely on values. It must also be supported by the necessary capacity to protect them. Europe must accept the protection of democracy as a defense policy, but not simply as an ideology. This must be a policy that is aimed at protecting values and strengthening them and will be conducted on three fronts - institutional, technological and values. Bulgaria supports efforts to diversify energy routes, strengthen cyber resilience and integrate technological innovations, because we believe that these are the means of democratic protection“, said Rosen Zhelyazkov.
