"After not listening to the opposition, after not listening to the experts and refusing to listen to the business, we are glad that finally the Bulgarian citizens were heard and this disastrous budget for the country will be withdrawn and revised."
This was stated by the co-chairman of "We Continue the Change" Assen Vassilev, quoted by NOVA. His comment came immediately after the news that GERB leader Boyko Borisov had ordered the withdrawal of Budget 2026.
On the sidelines of parliament, representatives of the PP-DB coalition expressed satisfaction with the ruling party's decision, which comes after the large-scale protest in front of the National Assembly on Wednesday evening.
"It is important that our proposals are accepted, that the right-wing measures are implemented and that Bulgaria has a good budget," emphasized MP from "Yes, Bulgaria" Ivaylo Mirchev.
In his words, after the success of civil pressure and the will of the people expressed in the square, now is the time to remove all planned restrictions on business.
The reaction comes hours after Boyko Borisov announced that he had convened an emergency meeting of the Joint Governance Council, at which a decision was made to withdraw the draft budget for next year. The goal is to restore dialogue with the Tripartite Council and to defuse public tension, which has escalated into protests against the planned increase in social security contributions and the tax burden.
