The leader of the MECH party Radostin Vassilev called on the parties in the ruling majority to distance themselves from the government even before the vote of no confidence. According to him, the political situation has entered a critical phase after the mass protests on Wednesday evening, Nova TV reported.
“If there is a little common sense left in the current government, Slavi Trifonov or the people from the BSP should declare that they will leave the government and vote for the fall of this government“, Vassilev said on the sidelines of the parliament. According to him, the protests have given “such a strong voice for resignation that it should be heard even by the thickest-skinned politician“.
He defined the civic energy as now irreversible: “This is an irresistible force that guarantees that the Borisov and Peevski model cannot continue“. Vassilev emphasized that for the first time such a large number of young people have expressed a categorical position against the backstage and the way of governing.
According to him, the protests should not be used for party purposes. “No one has the right to privatize this protest. There were citizens in the square, not PP-DB“, said Vassilev and added that MECH supports the demonstrations “as citizens, without seeking expression“.
The MECH leader warned that if the ruling party remains in power, tensions could escalate. “From now on, governing in such a configuration will be torture. Bulgaria could end up in a civil war if the boundless arrogance continues“, he said.
Vassilev also criticized the MRF, emphasizing that “one should not speculate on the ethnic map, because the communities that Peevski considers their own actually do not want it“.
He also commented on the role of “There is such a people“. “Yesterday they broadcast clips of Slavi Trifonov - a man who destroyed the energy of the protest and betrayed a huge part of society“, Vassilev said. He recalled that he himself was the first to distance himself from the party: “I am the first person to reveal it, which I feel proud of“.
According to him, the PP–DB must also draw conclusions from their participation in the “assembly“. “The square will not forgive them for stumbling over Borisov and Peevski a second time“, the MECH leader emphasized.
Vassilev said that he expects a series of elections if the government resigns. “This must be experienced. Otherwise, we are going to protests that are bigger than the previous ones, scarier and bloodier“, he warned.
Regarding the election rules, MECH insists on the complete abolition of paper ballots. “Machine voting is gone, switching to electronic voting with a blockchain system – "That's our goal," he said.
