The Consumer Protection Commission monitors the prices of 5 million products daily - 1

We monitor the prices of over 5 million products daily and have data on how the price moves daily. We monitor day by day, store by store, chain by chain. When we detect a price increase, we send letters explaining what the price increase is due to. If there is no economic justification, we write acts of violation, said Alexander Kolyachev, acting chairman of the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC), in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio.

In the program "Before Everyone" he commented on the effect of the "How Much Does It Cost" platform, in which every consumer can find detailed information about the prices of every food product, store and city. And he explained that especially for cheese – packaged, information can be found about the price, which varies from 2 to 8 leva, and about the cut.

"Fortunately, such upward price movements are rare and I claim that the big food business is disciplined, complies with the rules in the Euro Law and we are calm", said Kolyachev and reminded that they have been conducting inspections since October 8.

And he pointed out that cabbage is a wonderful traditional product, which is currently at a good price.

Kolyachev commented that the Consumer Protection Commission monitors consumer rights in general:

"We have more and more signals and complaints, we respond to everyone and actively stand on the side of the consumer. We care about their rights. Now, the Christmas discounts are in effect, and we are monitoring these processes - how the prices of goods are indicated in euros and leva, whether the discounts are reflected correctly, and for each of the campaigns, we are on site."

He expressed the opinion that consumers are increasingly aware of the law, know their rights, and we see this in the field, and also in complaints. For online sales, the CPC has processed over 1,000 signals.

"More and more people are seeking their rights and managing to protect them", stated Kolyachev.

He recommended that users additionally use the CPC mobile application, because through it "you can easily and with just a few clicks file a report, monitor the movement in real time and receive the results of our inspection".

According to the head of the CPC, people in large cities and small towns are well informed about the introduction of the euro from January 1, 2026 and reported that the information campaign of the CPC, the Ministry of Finance and the Bulgarian National Bank is successful and has done its job.

"We are entering 2026 with optimism, but our 2025 is not over and we continue with inspections, more actively in services. "We are starting inspections of tourist sites around Christmas and New Year, a dynamic 2026 awaits us, for which we are prepared," said Kolyachev.
