Bulgaria is ready to be an active and responsible partner within the monetary union of the EU. The adoption of the euro is the result of consistent efforts and reforms and will contribute to economic stability, greater trust and new opportunities for Bulgarian citizens and businesses. This was stated by the outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, who presented the Bulgarian euro coin series to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen before the start of the European Council meeting in Brussels.
Zhelyazkov expressed gratitude to Ursula von der Leyen for the consistent support of the European Commission in the process of Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the constructive dialogue and the expert assistance of the EC throughout all stages of the preparation. According to him, this support is key to the successful finalization of the process and the full integration of the country into the eurozone.
He introduced von der Leyen to the Bulgarian national symbols on the back of the coins, which express Bulgarian history, cultural identity and the country's place in the European family.
Rosen Zhelyazkov pointed out to the President of the EC that Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone is the last step of our country towards full European integration into the economic and financial structures of the European Union.
