The Ministry of Interior portal and POS terminals will be temporarily suspended due to the introduction of the euro - 1

In connection with the introduction of the euro as the official currency in the Republic of Bulgaria, the Ministry of Interior announced a temporary suspension of access to the Portal for Electronic Administrative Services (PEAU) and to POS terminals for card payments.

The interruption is necessary due to technological and configuration changes related to the transition to the new currency.

From 12:00 on December 31 to 18:00 on January 1, 2026, the portal for electronic administrative services will be temporarily unavailable to all users. This includes submitting applications, checking administrative documents and other services that are usually carried out online.

At the same time, during the same period, payments will not be made through mobile POS devices in the patrol cars of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, nor through stationary POS terminals in all regional departments, departments and sectors of the "Traffic Police" of the Directorate of Internal Affairs/Directorate of Internal Affairs, border checkpoints and units of "Bulgarian Identity Documents".

This means that citizens will not be able to pay fines under the Road Traffic Act (RTA) via card payments at these locations within December 31, 2025 and January 1, 2026.

If it is necessary to pay fines under the RTA during the period of the temporary suspension, Ministry of Internal Affairs employees will direct citizens to other payment methods. Detailed information about possible alternative methods can be found on the website of the “Traffic Police“ in the section “Administrative Services“, topic “Payment of fines for violations“: https://www.mvr.bg/opp.
