Final: MPs limit the number of polling stations in non-EU countries to 20  - 1

The parliament has finally adopted on second reading the change in the Electoral Code, according to which in countries that are not members of the European Union (EU), up to 20 polling stations can be formed outside Bulgarian diplomatic and consular representations in the respective country, BTA reports.

From "We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria" (PP – DB) proposed that the sections be 100 instead of 20, but the proposal was not supported in the plenary hall.

During the debate, Ceyhan Ibryamov ("Alliance for Rights and Freedoms") proposed that the sections outside the EU be 70 instead of 20, but this was also rejected.

Gunay Husmen (GERB – UDF) proposed that the sections be limited to 30, but this proposal was also not accepted.

With 117 votes “for“, 82 “against“ and 10 “abstains“, the parliament adopted the initial proposal of “Vazrazhdane“ to limit the sections to 20. Electoral sections outside diplomatic or consular missions will be formed on the basis of no less than 40 applications for voting, the deputies decided.
