„This is not a war of Europe and Europe was not the one that entered the conflict. When Europe is pressured to make a decision and provide support without this having been initially coordinated with its allies, this would be exceptional nonsense”. This was commented by Stoyan Mihalev, the sixth on the PP-DB list in the 24th MIR in Sofia, regarding the war in the Middle East.
He drew a parallel with the war in Ukraine, emphasizing that there the European position was clearly justified by the need to defend against aggression.
„If we take the war in Ukraine as an example - there it was a question of a defensive decision and it was clear why Europe was providing support. But here there is no way for Europe to react to an offensive act in the same way”, he also said.
Regarding the information about missile attacks on Turkey, Mihalev said the following:
„It is still not certain whether this is a targeted act. I hear experts' assessments that it is more likely not a direct attack against a NATO member state”.
He stressed the importance of membership in the Alliance as a key factor for Bulgaria's security.
„This shows how correct Bulgaria's choice to be part of NATO was – this is the real defense. We see that countries outside the Alliance are under much clearer scrutiny”, the MP also said.
According to Mikhalev, Iran's actions against neighboring countries are aimed at exerting indirect pressure on the United States.
“The attacks on neighboring Arab countries show that Iran is trying to force them to exert pressure on America to stop its actions”, Mikhalev also said.
