We believe that a country must have its own currency in order to be able to conduct an independent and sovereign policy. This was stated by the leader of the "Vazrazhdane" list in Pernik, Dimo Drenchev, in the program "Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov" on NOVA NEWS.
The reason for the conversation was the economic part of the "Bulgaria 1400" program, in which the financial framework occupies a relatively small volume. According to Drenchev, however, the main emphasis is on the return of the Bulgarian lev. “Every country can be much more prosperous and freer if it has its own currency”, he stressed.
He added that although there is no precedent for exiting the eurozone, such a scenario is possible. “We believe that Bulgaria's very entry took place with falsification of data on both the deficit and inflation”, said Drenchev.
The representative of “Vazrazhdane” specified that the party is not against the euro as a currency. According to him, the issue is related to the time of accession, and not to a renunciation of the commitments made. "We are not fighting against the euro, but for the preservation of the Bulgarian lev and the currency board," he said.
Drenchev defined the currency board as a key mechanism for financial stability. According to him, our country is gradually approaching the average levels of indebtedness in the European Union. "The currency board places limits on uncontrolled spending and guarantees low levels of debt," he said.
Drenchev denied that "Vazrazhdane" is insisting on leaving the EU. According to him, increasing military spending to 5% of GDP is unjustified and would be at the expense of social policies. "We are talking about changing the rules in the EU - in the field of energy, agriculture and defense spending," he explained.
According to him, the economic program of "Vazrazhdane" includes changes in the tax system. "People with the lowest incomes should pay less or not pay taxes at all," Drenchev said.
According to him, the goal is to maintain the flat tax, but with adjustments at both ends of the scale - relief for the poorest and a higher burden for the richest.
